Our First Trax Ride

This has been an unusual week for us; we didn't attend a single concert! This is the first week in the six months we've been here that we didn't attend something. However, we went to a friend's house for dinner on Thursday night, had a lovely dinner and had fun getting better acquainted.

There is a monthly devotional held for the Church Service Missionaries (CSM's).  The subject for this month for them was to encourage them to change their status to full-time.  Currently there is a need for an additional 100 missionaries in the Family and Church Headquarters Mission. Not only are they encouraging the CSM's to convert to full-time service but most likely there will be additional emphasis in the Wards and Stakes to encourage senior couples to put in their papers and prepare to serve.

On Saturday we attended the State Fair during a heavy rainstorm; actually rode the Trax to get there. We enjoyed seeing the 4-H entries and the amazing displays of the youth involved. Of course we made sure to look at the quilts and saw some unbelievably beautiful quilts as you can see in the pictures below.

The weather is very unpredictable from one minute to the next.  We've had quite a lot of rain this week and we can see that the leaves on the trees are beginning to turn colors.  It won't be long before we have to wear coats.

We went to the Conference Center Sunday morning for a Regional Conference. There were 16 Stakes invited to attend in the Center and others viewed it from their home Stakes. The Conference was for 116 Stakes in the Salt Lake City and surrounding area. Elder Russell M. Nelson, Whitney Clayton, Sister Rosemary Wixom, the General Primary President and Elder Boyd K. Packer (via video) were the speakers.

Elder Packer mentioned that the difficulties that were suffered by the Saints when they crossed the plains were very difficult for them but that what lies ahead for the Church will be even more difficult. He didn't go further to suggest what those difficulties would be.  There was a young adult choir that filled the seats normally filled by the Tab Choir and they were AWESOME!!
